Beyond the packaging, the contents

From 1947 until the present day we have become successful thanks to the evolution of production systems and technological developments, without ever abandoning the passion we had on the very first day. A passion for welfare and sustainable development, not simply financial, but also and above all for values that concern working practices, culture, safety, the environment and people.

It was 1947

Our job, what we do, which began far back in 1947, from a dream by Giambattista Fiorini, a visionary gentleman who during the difficult post-War years accepted the challenge of changing his own life scenario.

People

People – employees, suppliers, customers – constitute our most important capital. A capital comprising skills, experience, and emotions that are nurtured and strengthened every day.

Today Fiorini Packaging can boast more than 200 employees, 95% of whom proudly with an open-ended contract. Talent is extremely important to us: about 20% of our staff is under 40. Employee loyalty to the company is extremely high: the average experience is almost 20 years.

Years in which these people – because that’s how we prefer to call them – grow together with the company. Investing in the growth of our employees is a key factor for our business growth: for this reason, a large number of training hours are completed each year.

Hours which were also invested in relational soft skills. To guarantee our customers maximum satisfaction, we rely on analysis methods that make it possible to measure the relational dynamics between our company and the customers themselves. By analysing the expectations and the perception that customers have of what we do, we measure: Reliability, Relational skills, Reassurance skills, and Empathy.
Our surveys show that our customers have ranked our skills at an average score of 6 out of 7.

Protecting the environment

The paper used to produce our sacks is sourced from controlled and certified forests. In addition to the maximum reduction of waste paper, since the end of the ‘90s, we have chosen to use water-based inks, as well as a significantly reduced quantity of solvents and other dangerous substances. The glues we use are mainly organically-based, such as potato flour or maize starch, in an attempt to restrict the use of chemicalbased glues.

Our attention on manufacturing has led us to a drastic reduction in CO2 emissions per tonne of sacks produced, and we have now reached extremely low levels both in absolute terms and relating to production volumes. Our water consumption has been progressively reduced: this demonstrates our constant effort in reducing the wastage of this precious environmental resource. Responsible production is driving our company towards a reduced utilisation of chemicals and a more efficient usage of raw materials. Our products may in the majority of cases be 100% recycled, and in others they simply need to be separated to be rendered recyclable.

Sustainability

It is a virtuous circle: we pay maximum attention to our product to ensure that what it contains generates ideas, plans and ambitions.

We consider the social and environmental sustainability objectives to be the primary condition to achieve growth in the medium and long term. Plans aimed at creating a shared value, consistently with the strategies implemented as part of our industrial plan. The adoption of an Integrated Management System, for instance, is a strategic decision for an organisation that can help improve its overall performance and provide a solid basis for development initiatives.
A sustainability that is increasingly integrated into the strategy. And, naturally, into the product.

Certifications are not just frames you put up on the office walls, indeed they testify to the total compliance with the quality and process requirements that only absolute conformity with the strictest international standards can guarantee.  These requirements are vital for companies who are willing to put the acknowledgement and the satisfaction of their customers’ needs and the needs of the community first, in a concrete commitment to continuous improvement.
For Fiorini, certifications are first and foremost about the contents as well as about the pack.

To possess the ISO 9001 certification means being able to guarantee to the customer the ability to provide them regularly with products and services which satisfy their expected requirements and those applicable to their product.
A company which is ISO 9001:2015 certified is a company which is trustworthy, organised, audited and which always strives to satisfy the customer by improving itself and to make the quality of the product its primary objective.

The standard specifies the requirements for a management system for quality control.
It allows the organiser to demonstrate its own ability to provide regularly products and services which satisfy the requirements of the customer and those applicable in that context. The efficient application of the system allows the company to increase customer satisfaction, to improve the system itself in a dynamic of continuous improvement and to increase the directionality of all the functions towards the final result.

To possess an environmental certification means formulating the company strategy by placing at the top of the agenda the care and respect of the environment, of the local landscape, and of environmental laws; by respecting through its own products and its own activities the highest standards of environmental sustainability.

The objective of the continual improvement of environmental services means that the Company:
– works and undertakes to reduce the impact of its activities on the landscape which surrounds it (reduction to the minimum possible level of utilisation of resources, of the production of waste, the reduction of atmospheric emissions, etc.)
– manufactures and designs products which are ever more eco-sustainable and with a low environmental impact.
Working with a company which is ISO 14001:2015 certified means having a partner which sees looking after the environment as conserving and protecting a source of wealth for future generations.
Working with this company means being able to count upon continual innovation, designed to avoid for its own customers, and consequently for their clients, every type of environmental problem.

To be certified in accordance with the standard UNI ISO 45001:2018 means always placing the highest priority on the health and safety of a company’s own workers.
It means being active in the market and manufacturing competitive products without abandoning the need to look after the company’s own workforce, thanks to safe and salubrious environments, by evaluating and managing the risks present in the company activity itself, by respecting the law and working to improve the work climate and relations.
To possess this certification means being able to communicate the fact that the company is not content just to have a safe workplace environment, but works proactively to protect the health and safety of its own workers by setting itself policies and targets for continual improvement.

The UNI ISO 45001:2018 standard is the first international standard to define good practice and requirements for an occupational health and safety management system in order to allow an organisation to protect its workers, to control health and safety risks and to improve the related performance levels.
Based on the fundamental aspects of continuous improvement and conformity with applicable regulations, the standard represents an organisational tool which allows the company to manage the safety of its workers in an organic and systematic fashion.
Being certified ISO 45001 means the Company is committed to proactively protecting the occupational health and safety of its employees, to defining the company’s objectives and policies in support of the health and safety of its workers, to complying with mandatory regulations, to managing risks and improving the work climate of personal relations between the various subjects at the various levels of the organisation.

FSSC 22000 certification puts the company on one of the highest steps in food safety management.
It is recognized worldwide, which means that the company produces products according to requirements and standards accepted by the entire agri-food market, allowing the customer to overcome the level differences that may exist between the various voluntary supply chain or market standards.
Having an FSSC 22000 certified company as a partner is a guarantee of safety and international recognition of the food safety of the packaging purchased.

“This is a certification scheme for food safety developed by the Foundation for Food Safety to certify organisations operating in the food sector set up with the objective of harmonising the certification requirements and methods for obtaining food safety systems in that sector. Based on the ISO 22000 standard and integrated with technical standards, it is recognised at an international level by the GFSI – Global Food Safety Initiative, which has the objective of guaranteeing safety throughout the food chain, controlling the risks and reinforcing care for the customer.
The scheme helps companies to achieve food safety standards in their manufacturing processes.
FSSC 22000 is a standard which is recognised by the EA (European Cooperation for Accreditation): this means that it is accepted by all the European accreditation organisations.

What are the benefits of the certification?

Being an FSC® certified company entitles us to place the FSC® mark on the sacks we produce, with our license code FSC-C155597, guaranteeing that all the paper used in our production process is sourced from a responsibly managed forest and supply chain.

Having the FSC® mark on our products means being able to provide information about how our sacks are produced, the paper we use and the impact our products have on the world around us; information that is increasingly becoming a deciding factor in the choices made by consumers today.
Being FSC®-certified means offering economic benefits by guaranteeing environmental and social responsibility to our clients and their end customers.

Obtaining the Halal Certification represents for Fiorini the will to be up to date with the market evolution and with the customer and consumers’ needs.

The Arabic word “Halal” means “appropriate, allowed”, permitted by the Islamic law and doctrine.
The request of Halal products is spreading worldwide, involving different areas from food to pharmaceutical and cosmetic.
The consumers consciousness is growing and influences the choice of products that guarantee the fulfill of the precepts of the Islamic Law along the entire production process, including packaging.
Fiorini decided to certify its production process as Halal compliance, in order to guarantee to its customers and their final consumers that the packaging provided is not contaminated by Haram substances – i.e. substances impure or forbidden by the Islamic Law.
The Halal certification ensures high hygienic and safety standard along the entire production process, this perfectly matched with the international food certifications and the integrated management system developed by the company, therefore Fiorini Packaging can be considered a leader with the highest production standards in the packaging field.

BRCGS Packaging Materials is a product certification recognized worldwide as one of the leading standards in food safety of packaging.
BRC GS Packaging Material was one of the first standards in the world to be recognized by the Global Food Safety Initiative (GFSI). This recognition allows Fiorini to communicate to customers the highest degree of food safety applied in their company.
This standard originated as a private standard from Anglo-Saxon retail developed by the British Retail Consortium (BRC) with the collaboration of the Institute of Packaging and the various associations representing food packaging companies.

It is one of the food safety standards most in demand in the Anglo-Saxon retail market and Commonwealt countries, facilitating supply processes with the largest retailers.

The BRC GS Packaging Materials product scheme is based on hazard analysis and risk assessment and HACCP principles applied to packaging intended for the food and feed market.
It provides for control of the production environment, business processes, product, personnel and of course regulatory compliance.
This certification gives customers the confidence that they are purchasing hygienically safe packaging, that they are partnering with a packaging manufacturer who can meet the needs of the food market, and with whom they can collaborate effectively throughout the supply chain through clear and limpid communication related to food safety.

For Fiorini, obtaining Kosher certification means being able to carefully research and select raw materials and suppliers and adopt suitable manufacturing practices for the finished product in order to respond to customers who require products that conform to the Jewish faith.
The term Kosher identifies the set of religious rules that govern the nutrition of observant Jews. The religious rules are derived from the Bible – the Torah.

This certification is not only aimed at observant consumers of the Jewish faith, but also at all those who identify this label as a guarantee of purity, quality and control of ingredients.
The packaging becomes an integral part of these rules that, in combination with the food safety system guaranteed by the highest internationally recognised certifications already possessed by Fiorini, guarantees the end consumer the safety of hygiene and conformity of the packaging.
